Nordoff and Robbins, the UK’s largest music therapy charity, have announced the launch of the Northern Music Awards, set to take place on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Manchester’s iconic Albert Hall. This marks the first music awards show dedicated to recognising and celebrating the diverse talent across North England.

The event, sponsored by Ticketmaster and Live Nation, aims to raise funds for Nordoff and Robbins’ ambitious vision of establishing a state-of-the-art music therapy centre in Greater Manchester, Salford. The Northern Music Awards will become an annual celebration, highlighting the rich tapestry of musical talent emerging from the North of England.

Ticketmaster is the proud sponsor of the ‘Artist of the Year’ category, featuring shortlisted nominees: singer-songwriter Sam Fender from Newcastle, Rotherham’s Self Esteem, and Doncaster-born Louis Tomlinson.

Andrew Parsons, Managing Director of Ticketmaster UK said: “This accolade celebrates the hottest acts of the year who have dominated festival stages and packed venues nationwide. The nominees embody the power of music – underscoring the vital impact of Nordoff and Robbins’s mission in providing music therapy to transform lives.”

Sarah Slater, Ticketmaster’s VP of Music and Festivals said: “Ticketmaster is honoured to support Nordoff and Robbins in the inaugural Northern Music Awards. The support and the unique approach that the charity practices are crucial, and we look forward to helping them achieve both increased awareness and raise vital funds for music therapy in the north of England.”

Nadra Shah, Director of Engagement and Communications, Nordoff and Robbins, said: “The Northern Music Awards aims to celebrate the massive musical talent that continues to come out of this region and will be held annually in different Northern cities. We want to honour the enormous success of established artists such as the award winning and multi-million album selling Lisa Stansfield – but also spotlight emerging musicians who may not yet be recognised at a national level. We really want to support and help to grow the eco system of Northern musicians whilst shining a light on the transformative work we do with music therapy to connect with some of the region’s most isolated communities. In 2024 we’re celebrating 20 years of providing essential music therapy in Greater Manchester and we’re excited that this show will support our vision to open a brand new centre – helped by the money raised from these awards.”
